Many lives were lost during World War One and it has been 100 years since. In this edition of MasterWorks, ADDO Arts Company pays memoriam to the centennial of the end of World War One with works by composers and literati whom lived through this turmoil and had penned their voices onto paper to commemorate the loss of their comrades.
Based on Kipling’s Recessional, ADDO is privileged to present for you a colourful evening of Kelly, Ravel, Prokofiev and Debussy. Performing the Prokofiev’s Left Hand Piano Concert is the lovely concert pianist Cecilia Ratna, a student of the late Edmund Battersby, while juxtaposed in the programme is the winning work at ADDO’s Have You Experienced? Composition Laboratory and Competition for Emerging Composers 2017 by local composer Gu Wei whose international presence is unfolding. This lab and competition is the latest initiative of ADDO Arts Company to commission and promote new works specifically for chamber orchestra by emerging composers.
The concert also includes readings from selected poems by storyteller Rosemarie Somaiah from the Asian Storytelling Network.
MasterWorks: Lest We Forget will be held at the Esplanade Recital Studio on 18 August 2017 at 7.30pm.
This programme has been listed in the National Arts Council Public Arts Programme ID: PAP033913.
Schools may purchase bulk tickets using the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the ticket price with a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
